Port Orange high school student and ARCA racing driver Michael Lira tied his best finish of the season in the Menard’s 200 presented by Federated Car Care at Toledo Speedway. Lira finished ninth after starting 12th in Sunday’s race.
“We held on for a strong finish,” said Lira, Driver of the No. 68 Gary Yeomans Ford Fusion. “I’m really happy with how this whole Kimmel Racing team battled throughout the weekend to get into the top 10.”
The team battled transmission issues during Saturday’s practice session leaving Lira with limited time to get up to speed. The team put in tremendous effort to get the car ready for qualifying.
“I can’t say enough about the effort the whole crew put in Saturday to get us ready,” said Lira, a Junior at Spruce Creek High School. “It says a lot about the direction we are headed as we keep improving and building on these strong runs.”
Lira ran a consistent race and improved throughout the 200 lap event which was won by Justin Boston. The 29 car field included NASCAR star Ken Schrader and ARCA legend Frank Kimmel.
This was Lira’s third start of the year in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. His next event is the Great Railing 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park on June 1, 2014.
