Welcome back to ARCA competition… Although Michael participated in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards test sessions at Daytona International Speedway in December and January, at only 17 years old he was too young to compete in the ARCA season-opener last month. However, since the first of the year the Port Orange, Florida High School Senior has had a very busy schedule, which included racing in the prestigious Rolex 24 at Daytona.
History at the historic half-mile… Mobile International Speedway has been in operation since 1965. Michael’s history at the track is 1 start (2014), qualifying 14th and finishing 9th.
Gary Yeomans Ford keys to victory… Stay out of trouble! In the three years that the ARCA Racing Series has visited Mobile, the race has had the distinction of having the most caution periods of any race on the schedule every year. There have been 11 caution periods in each of the three races the track has hosted. To make it to victory lane, avoid getting caught up in any on-track incidents.
Meet Michael at the USS Alabama… ARCA teams will have their cars and haulers on display from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Thursday, March 12, on the USS Alabama in Mobile. A driver autograph session from will go from 5:00 to 6:00pm in the Aircraft Pavilion. After the autograph session, Mobile County Sheriff Deputies will lead the ARCA haulers from the Battleship in a Hauler Parade to Mobile International Speedway to prepare for Friday’s on track activities.
Michael Lira on Daytona International Speedway: “I really enjoyed the race at Mobile last year. I was able to keep the car clean all day, and that will be my goal again for this year. We participated in the ARCA open test here in Mobile last weekend and the car was great! The team learned a lot that we will use in the race. We’ve got a really strong No. 69 Gary Yeomans Ford, and after racing several other series since the end of last season, I’m ready to get down to business and start my 2015 ARCA season with a strong finish on Saturday.”
