After a rough start to the 49th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing last Friday night at New Smyrna Speedway, Michael Lira bounced back to a strong 5th place finish on Saturday and is now ready to get down to business with seven scheduled races over the next five days.

After Friday night, the 17-year old Spruce Creek High School Senior commented “Definitely not the start we were hoping for. We were running fourth when the car in front of us got into a lap-down car right in the middle of the track and I had no where to go. I’m okay, but the car is messed up pretty bad. It’s been a really great car in testing, so Dustin and the crew are going to work on getting it back together rather than going to my back-up.”

Crew chief Dustin Skinner and the Lira Motorsports crew worked a long night on Friday to put the No. 57 Gary Yeomans Ford back together to be ready for Saturday’s race. Their hard work paid off, with the car qualifying second, then racing to a strong 5th place finish in the 20 car field.

“Last night to tonight… Yes, it’s the same car, thanks to my Lira Motorsports guys for working all night to get this thing from wrecked to P5, now let’s get some wins next week! This Ford Racing hot rod is fast. I want to get it into victory late in front of my hometown fans!”

After a two day break, Michael and the team return to Pro Late Model competition at New Smyrna tonight. Fans not able to make it to the track can watch all the action live on FansChoice.tv thanks to a partnership between NASCAR, FansChoice.tv and Speed51.com.

After tonight, Michael returns to action on Thursday for a 50 lap Pro Late Model feature race followed by more Pro Late Model competition on Friday and Saturday. He is also scheduled to compete in the Super Late Model race on Friday, then cap the nine day World Series of Asphalt in the 2nd Annual Bruce Gowland Memorial Super Late Model 100 on Saturday.
