In a 2.5 hour race at Road Atlanta that saw steady rain showers throughout the race, Michael Lira captured his first career IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSC) Series top ten finish on Friday, October 2nd.
Michael was paired with his Lira Motorsports teammate, David Levine, as his co-driver for the race.
The duo steadily moved up the speed charts in each of three practice sessions prior to the race. They were 12th quickest in the first session, 10th quickest in the second session and 3rd quickest in the final session. Qualifying for the race was cancelled due to rain.
Michael was in the driver’s seat for the drop of the green flag. He raced his way as far forward as the 4th position at one point in the race. He was running 8th when he handed the car over to Levine during a full course caution that occurred around the mid-way point in the event.
Levine crossed the finish line in 10th place, running on the same lap as the race winner.
This was Michael’s third IMSA CTSC race in 2015. He also competed in the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway and at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in May.
After the race, Michael commented “Road Atlanta is fun! Rain racing is fun! Very happy that I got my first IMSA top-10 this weekend… big thanks to Lira Motorsports and my co-driver David Levine!”
