Saturday at Salem Speedway was the final ARCA Racing Series event for Michael for this season. Having tested at Salem earlier in the year, Michael was somewhat familiar with the very bumpy, tricky track. During the first few laps of practice the car suffered a broken shock mount. The team went to work quickly repairing the car, but Michael wasn’t able to make any more practice laps in the first session. With the #68 Gary Yeomans Ford Fusion all repaired, Michael began making laps and familiarizing himself once again with the track during the second practice session. Michael qualified in the 12th spot and was looking forward for the 200 lap race. “You have to be consistent here and manage your tires to be there at the race end”, Michael said, “the guy that can do that will finish well.” By lap 119 Michael had made his way up to the 4th spot when the first caution came out. Michael was caught speeding down pit lane and had to start at the back for his penalty. He fought his way back to the front to finish 7th, getting his first top 10 in the ARCA Series in just 4 starts! Michael looks forward to returning to the series with Kimmel Racing in 2014 for the races he’s eligible for.
