Michael Lira is a 17-year-old race car driver, who has had a passion for racing since he was very young. As a child, he watched his Dad race and knew right away that he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.  When he was just 9 years old, Lira started racing Quarter Midgets.  He has also raced go-carts on dirt, a more technical sport than racing on asphalt.

Michael’s main goal is to achieve success in racing.

In 2011, his first season in the FASCAR PRO-TRUCKS division, he claimed the title of “Rookie of the Year.”

In 2012, Michael competed in the FASCAR PRO-TRUCKS series, the FLORIDA UNITED PRO-TRUCKS series, and made his debut in a Pro-Late Model stock car, finishing 4th in his very first race, the PRO-LATE 100 lapper. After that, he made his Super Late Model debut in theRed-eye 100 and finished 2nd.

Michael ended the 2012 season winning the Track Championship at New Smyrna Speedway, tying for the Track Championship at Orlando Speedworld for the FASCAR Pro-Trucks divisions and finished 6th in points in FLORIDA UNITED PRO-TRUCKS series.

Michael began his ARCA Racing Series career in 2013, running four races in association with Jack Roush, Roush-Fenway Racing and Kimmel Racing.

In 2014, Michael ran 11 of the 20 races on the ARCA Series schedule. His No. 69 Kimmel Racing Ford Fusion team, was headed by legendary ARCA crew chief Bill Kimmel. Michael drove the car to three top ten finishes and two top-ten starts, including an ARCA career best start of 4th in his superspeedway debut at Pocono.

For 2015, Michael will again be competing in the ARCA Series, now driving for Lira Motorsports. Lira Motorsports is a family owned and operated team managed by Michael’s parents, Carlos and Amanda Lira. Michael’s 2015 schedule includes 16 of the 20 races on the ARCA schedule. Because of ARCA age restrictions, he is not able to compete at four of the series’ events.

Michael’s is also building a sports car racing resume, which currently includes experience behind the wheel in SCCA and IMSA competition. He made his IMSA Tudor United SportsCar Championship debut in the prestigious 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
